Where access to a doctor is a luxury, and illness too often means a death sentence, space is emerging for true change. Following last year's success, when, thanks to a Polish medical team, over 1,000 consultations, 20 surgeries, and dozens of tests were conducted, the "Medics for Kenya" project is returning to Meru, with even greater strength, enthusiasm, and a larger number of specialists.
This isn't just another charity event. It's a human story of hope, determination, and faith in the return of good. Between September 1st and 9th, a group of doctors—pediatricians, a surgeon, a radiologist, and students of the Pomeranian Medical University—under the supervision of Professor Elżbieta Petriczko, MD, PhD, will travel to one of the most medically excluded regions in the world. To a place where vaccines, antibiotics, and basic equipment are still lacking. Where high child mortality is common.
Everyday life that we know nothing about
This time, in addition to consultations, treatments, and tests, they will be accompanied by a camera. During the mission, a documentary film directed by Igor Shvech will be shot, capturing not only the work of the medics but also the reality of the inhabitants of Meru. We will tell the story of life in a place where health still doesn't equate to law.
Support is still needed to carry out this mission—from medications and transportation to vaccinations and small gifts for children. That's why we're proud to announce that Polish specialty coffee roaster LaCava has joined the ranks of this initiative's partners.
Let's do it together
For LaCava, working with Kenyan plantations is more than just a business relationship. It's a direct connection with the people who pour their hearts and souls into cultivating some of the best coffee in the world every day. We feel a sense of responsibility—not only for the quality of the beans that reach our customers, but also for the communities from which they originate. Therefore, the decision to support the "Medics for Kenya" initiative was a natural step for us—an expression of solidarity and gratitude to the local communities with whom we have been working for years.
As part of the campaign, until August 23 25% of the proceeds from the sale of Kenyan coffees will go towards providing direct medical assistance to the people of Meru. This is real support that, one cup at a time, can change lives.
"We've been importing coffee from Kenya for years, and we know that everything depends on the people there—their work, commitment, and health. When we learned that a Polish medical team was traveling to Meru, we felt it was the right time to do something more. By supporting this mission, we want to strengthen the chain of responsibility—from producer to customer. Coffee connects people around the world—and today, it can also connect us in helping others."
- Jacek Kotowski, CEO of LaCava
Let's make 2025 the year we prove that the impossible becomes possible when we work together. Let "Medics for Kenya" be the beginning of a permanent presence of goodness where it is most needed. Because help knows no borders. And health is a right, not a privilege.
